Dentistry From The Heart

Dr. Tony Agapis’ annual gift of a free day of dentistry, will be held on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing free fillings, extractions and cleanings to the first 150 people who show up at the Chester practice. This year’s event will be the second annual “Dentistry From The Heart” event for Dr. Agapis’ practice at 2480 Osborne Road in Chester, Virginia.

Dr. Tony Agapis is out to change lives by offering free smiles to anyone who needs dental work, as he hosts the latest event for Dentistry from the Heart.

In the past two years, Dr. Tony Agapis and his team of dentists, sponsors, and volunteers have helped over 100 people in need of dental work - treating patients in need of fillings, extractions, and cleanings.  This year's event promises to be the largest yet.

Dentistry from the Heart (DFTH) is a national non-profit organization with a simple mission - making people smile.  Founded in 2001, by a dentist in New Port Richey, Fla., DFTH was created to aid those in need, including the growing population of under9insured Americans.  Over 100 million Americans lack dental insurance, and over 29 percent of adults have untreated cavities.  Without events like DFTH, dental care simply isn't an option for many of the uninsured.  To date, DFTH has helped over 5,000 patient and provided over $1 million in dental care.

"Now more than ever, I know there's people out there who need my services, but have no means to afford them - whether they're out of a job, or just don't have dental insurance.  This Dentistry from the Heart event is my way of giving back to the community, and being there for people who are in need of dental work," say Dr. Agapis.

The event will take place on Friday, February 22nd at Dr. Agapis' office in Chester.  Starting at 8:00 a.m., Dr. Agapis, along with Dr. Wm. Callery, Dr. Jeff Maurer, and Dr. Paul Brinser III, will treat the first 150 patients, or however many they can service by 4:30 p.m.  For more information about Dentistry from the Heart, visit www.dentistryfromtheheart.org.

"Our first annual Dentistry From The Heart was a great success! Myself along with Dr. Brinser and Dr. Callery and eleven other volunteers , were able to treat 94 patients from our community offering free cleanings, fillings, and extractions. We opened our doors at 8 AM on a chilly February 16th to a crowd of about 70 people, some waiting since 4 AM! There were lots of hugs and thank yous from our patients who appreciated a helping hand. Our group of volunteers were overwhelmed at times returning their appreciation to our patients. All in all it was a great beginning to what will be an annual event at our office. We will see you next year!"
